This house is located on the Nemunas River in the Old Town of Kaunas, Lithuania. I wanted to do a drawing of the house so I took some photos from the river bank. It is early May and the leaves are new on the trees.
From what I understand, it was built by a riverboat captain in the early 1930s. The tower on the top of the house was a place where he could view the activity on the river. I’ve heard stories that at one time there was a fancy restaurant on the ground floor. Boats and yachts could park at the dock below and people could climb the steps to go eat there.
I think the house and the schoolgirls together make an interesting drawing. I also like the variety of plaid skirts, tops, and knee-highs the gals are wearing.
