Ink and Watercolor on Paper
11″ x 16-1/2″
This drawing is of a ceramic troika we own. Solvei and I bought this piece at an artist booth in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1992. The shoe vendor figure was given to us as a gift in 1993.
The pieces are not signed, but are modern versions of Dymkovo toys, molded painted clay figures of people and animals. It is one of the old Russian folk art traditions that still exists in the village of Dymkovo near Kirov (former Vyatka).
For this drawing I set up the figures in a diorama and made a reference photo.
